Timber floors can be broken down into three main categories

1. Laminate Floor

Consists of no solid timber, but is made from a composite base onto which a surface layer is attached.  The advantage of laminate is that it is easy to maintain, quick to install and very cost effective.

2. Semi-solid

A semi solid floor has a 4mm-5mm layer of solid timber which is attached to a plywood base. As it uses less of solid hardwood it is more cost effective but still giving the appearance of a solid floor.

3. Solid Floor

Solid timber floors as the name suggests are hardwood all the way through. Generally 18mm-22mm in thickness. They can come finished or unfinished. Unfinished floors need a light sanding once installed and then require varnishing or oiling, whereas pre-finished are ready for use immediately.

Maintenance Tips

• Place mats at doorways to prevent the dragging of grit and dirt across the floor.
• Brush or vacuum regularly for maintenance.
• Wipe up spills immediately.
• When mopping don’t use a wet mop, a well wrung cloth or mop is more advisable.

Fit plastic shoes on all furniture to prevent scratching/scuffing of new floor.
